I don’t mean to insult you. But you’re afraid of hard work. Yeah, I know you work hard in the typically sense.
You study hard and do what your supposed to do. You’re a great student and a great employee. You work hard and succeed.
You have so many titles and accolades behind your name. What do you mean afraid of hard work? You made it through college.
Maybe even graduate school. That is hard work. Yeah, I know. But you are afraid of hard work.
You are afraid of what happens when there isn’t someone around to guide you and tell you what’s next. You don’t know how to lead yourself.
You are afraid of making your own roadmap for yourself in fears that you will fail. Don’t fret. You’re not the only one.
I am talking to myself too. For so long you have been following the road map of your curriculum and your workplace because it was easy. You never had to think about what was next.
You had the course catalogues or the work schedule for the day was already made by your supervisors. Yeah, there were challenges. But it was never completely always on you.
Now, imagine creating your own opportunities and your own road map. The thought is exciting but the reality is scary. You fear the responsibility.
Are you ready to put in the hard work? Are you ready to work with the possibility of failure? Because there will be no one to blame if you fail.
It’s all you and that’s scary. It’s almost paralyzing. How can you accomplish your goals and dreams when you are afraid of hard work?
You are scared of the possibility of failure. You are scared of the possibility of missing out on enjoying life because you will be working to hard trying to put your dreams together.
What if your dreams never come together and you missed out for no reason? The only thing I can tell you is to lie to yourself. Tell yourself that you can do it and then take the action steps that you need to accomplish your dreams.
Tell yourself you are the expert. Tell yourself that you are an entrepreneur and act like it. Set up those meetings. Do your research.
That is the first step to believing in yourself when you can’t seem to find your confidence. Yeah, the advice may be a little unorthodox, but it works. We all suffer from imposter syndrome at some point.
At those, points, we just have to fake it until we make it. Look confident until you are confident, but remain humble. I’m saying this because a lot of people are just told to be confident.
What if you can’t? What if it’s not natural to you? You isolate the very people you were trying to encourage.
You fear the unknown. What if you are afraid of hard work? You can’t just hustle until you make it. Deep down you are afraid to let down the people who supported and believed in you.
When you take the easy route, you know for sure you will not let them down. When you take the road less traveled, there is no guarantee whether or not you will be successful by their terms or your terms.
I can’t be your conscious. Only you know what will satisfy your soul. Maybe the hard work might be worth giving a try.
Realize that you have a fear of hard work. Then, pretend you have overcome it. Take a leap and see what happens.
