I was scrolling through Instagram the other day and I saw a post that said, “The world doesn’t care what you’re going through.” I know it was meant to be inspirational for you to keep going and all that jazz. But me being me, I took it the wrong way. And I’m here to say that the world does care about what you are going through.

There is no need for you to always put on a mask. Like I said in a previous post, stop pretending like everything is okay all the time. All the pretending because we think that the world doesn’t care is what gets us in trouble in the first place.

It makes us burn out because the weight of the world is on our shoulders. We are stressed and tired and we feel the need to hide it behind a smile because the world doesn’t care about what you’re going through. Suck it up.

Sorry, I just don’t see anything inspiring about that. Just because you had to suck it up or felt like you had to suck it up to get to where you are today, does not mean that I have to or anyone else has too.

It may seem inspirational to say that if you stick a smile on your face and power through until the end, but it can actually be pretty detrimental.

Share your burden with the world.

Well, at least the ones you know care. You know who your team is. You don’t have to go through this alone. There’s a team of people who care behind you.

The mask is only for those with stable mental health. They don’t normally fall into depressive moods. You know that’s not you. So, don’t fall into that attractive trap. You need to share your thoughts and feelings to let it go.

Journal

If you don’t feel like its safe enough to share your burdens with others, journal. No one can keep a better secret than your journal. Write and vent and cry. Plan your victory but don’t feel like you are out here alone because the world does care.

Set your boundaries

Realize what you can and cannot handle. Set healthy boundaries with your job and your relationships. There is no need for you to always feel like you have to push through your entire life wearing a mask. If you do, it might be time to re-evaluate your life. It might be time for you start setting boundaries. What responsibilities can you handle? What do you need help with? Who would you like help from? The world is not completely a cold and lonely place.

Final Words

The world cares. Well, at least I do. There is no need for you to always put up a façade in order to accomplish your dreams. You can have dreams that you need to achieve and not always like the journey there. That does not mean that you have to pretend that it’s great.

You can be realistic. You can vent. We are all human here. You know your support group is here for you. Don’t stay hidden behind a mask because that’s what the world expects from you. Or because you believe that the world doesn’t care.

The world is more human than you think. It just makes me sad that having a mask all the time during our downtimes is seen as a strength. You don’t need to pretend to be okay with your stress to be strong. Your strength comes from the simple fact that you keep going every day whether you are smiling or complaining.

Maybe that’s how they meant to come across in their Instagram post. But, a post like that can easily get misconstrued so that’s why I couldn’t outright agree with that form of encouragement.

The world does care about what you’re going through. So, share and be vulnerable. Don’t carry that toxic stress all by yourself. Well, I felt like I really went on a rant today.

Thanks for reading my rant,
