Now that I am back out in the regular world (out of school and being nonessential for the time being), I am truly appalled at the things I am seeing. People are not wearing masks. The coronavirus (COVID-19) is airborne. That means it travels through the air.
Gloves may not help you as much as a mask will. Physical contact is not such a huge part of the problem so long as you wash your hands and keep your hands off your face. But talking, singing, coughing, and sneezing can transfer the virus.
You are not superhuman. (I don’t care how healthy you think you are.)
This is not a conspiracy theory. The virus is very real. You do not want to get it just to get it over with.
Who says you will be one of the lucky ones who survive or will get optimal healthcare when our health system is so overwhelmed at the moment? If you do not care for your health, please stop being selfish. Just because you don’t care if you get sick, does not mean you can be careless. The virus is most contagious during the asymptomatic period.
What if you transferred the virus to your mother, your father, grandparents, or your friends? What if does people’s immune systems were compromised? There are healthcare workers, grocery workers, delivery people, and more risking their lives for you. Just so you can walk around without a care in the world not caring if you get coronavirus.
That is the ultimate disrespect. People are separated from their families to prevent the spread of corona. But you are out here without a mask and way too close to be considered social distancing. Please, 6 feet apart.
Stop being ignorant.
People are sacrificing for you. Accept the new normal. We may not be able to reopen up if you continue to resist.
We get it. It’s unreal. It feels like a movie. This is not real life. A whole pandemic. Countries closing down and people losing their jobs. We all want some type of normalcy.
But we have to come to terms with what we are going through. Don’t risk your health and the health of others because you would like to fake some normalcy. Get some therapy, talk to somebody, buy some adult coloring books.
But don’t go out and pack restaurants foregoing social distancing and gallivanting without masks because that’s what you were able to do before. As states start to fully open, I am just trying to warn you that you need to be fully cognizant of the current situation.
There are second waves and third waves of coronavirus being predicated and we have hardly finished the first wave. Please be careful and educate yourself about the virus. Just because your country may be reopening, that doesn’t mean coronavirus is over.
Coronavirus doesn’t end when the country reopens.
The reopening will not give you back your normalcy because there is no for sure cure or vaccine out there. Everything is still in research mode meaning yes, we may be seeing progress but we don’t even know the long-term effects of these experimental treatments.
Hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin are not the answers to your problem.
These drugs can actually be quite dangerous if used incorrectly or by the wrong patient. Just in case you think the reason that you are not being treated with it for prevention is a conspiracy theory.
Also, there are people with autoimmune diseases who actually really need hydroxychloroquine for their regular treatment. Giving everyone hydroxychloroquine will not only potentially kill some people with but will also create a shortage for those who really need it.
You know your healthcare system and you know your financial situation. Can you really afford to get coronavirus? Do you really want to bet your life?
Some of us need to work, and that’s okay. But just be cautious.
On an end note, please just remember these things.
- Wash your hands. Use at least 69% rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer, or soap and water.
- Wearing gloves doesn’t work if you are still touching your face.
- Masks help but do not fully protect you. Masks work even better if both parties that are making contact with each other are wearing masks.
- You can be symptom-free and still infect others with the virus.
Please be safe. I’m going to get off my soapbox now.
